Slither Review

9 out of 10 Skulls

So I finally checked out Slither, the movie that hosted the not so great poster but turned out to be pretty damn good. Directed by James Gunn who screen played Dawn of the Dead 2004 and the creator of Tromaville Cafe in 1997. Slither should be good horror in its form, funny and entertains, which it was I'm pleased to say. Slither is basically about some sort of alien force unleashes itself on a small farming town spreading its infection through small bugs entering mouths of the towns people. Leading to heavy amounts of blood, strange mutations and fantastic on screen mess. Yeah man I love it!

The thing that I love about the movie that its so plain and simple yet effective. We don't get thrown all over the shop by boring subplots and endless twists. Its just a basic strange solid storyline which lets us sit back and enjoy the movie instead of working it out. The cast were a bunch of standards, good enough for the movie, id say. No one that id seen before, which is always welcomed id say. The cast included, Michael Rooker, Elizabeth Banks, Gregg Henry, Nathan Fillion and Tania Saulnier. Id have to say I really liked Micheal Rooker who played Grant Grant in the movie. His role was nothing special but I just thought that his daft, slow comic-like face really worked with the style of the movie. He also looked fantastic in the full alien makeup, I watched this eating pizza and its one of the very few times that it actually put me off what I was eating just looking at him. So for that he's awarded, also I liked to mention Elizabeth Banks just because she's just pure lovely on screen...

What graced the movie the most was the on screen effects. OK they wasn't the best at times but what I saw I liked. They were fun as well as gory, bright and creative, I did like the whole style to the movie. I was also excited to see allot of makeup used in the movie, instead of a big budget cop out to CGI, its old school and us horror movie fans obviously like that right? Well we gotta or else Tom Slavini would be taking a back seat and letting some greasy hair punk sit at a computer typing all day! Yeah man the gore was old school and with just a hint of CGI for difficult shots, it was pleasant watching it. My favourite screens are, the lovemaking/murder of the first whore. The big fat explosion of the "whore" and the fantastic slicing in half guy in the cornfields, sweet!

Movies like Slither work so well because I think its got something for everyone, Fun, horror, comedy and its just a entertaining movie. Even when a heart wrenching moments on I was entertained watching it its just magic. Slither is a one for everyone and a few movies that remind me of this gem are, Shaun of the Dead, Army of Darkness and Dead Alive. So you know if your into any of these movies, I know for a fact that Slither will thrill you as much as it did me.
