Hannibal Rising Review

This review may contain spoilers. Read with caution if you have yet to see the following film. Hannibal Rising is about the early years of Hannibal Lecter and his sister, Misha Lecter, back in the days of WW2. Hannibal's parents are killed and his baby sister is eaten by a group of heartless German's. He soon finds himself escaping various places until he ends up in the hands of a beautiful Japanese woman. He later is the first in his family to attend medical school. Hannibal seeks revenge on the men responsible for eating his baby sister. We see him grow, we see him live, we see him kill.
Simply put, the acting is superb. Gaspard Ulliel delivers an academy award worthing performance as a younger Hannibal. Some could even go the lengths of saying his performance matches up against that of Anthony Hopkins who played the older Hannibal. Thomis Harris wrote an amazing script. Peter Webber did a terrific job of transferring it to the big screen.
The special effects were unbelievable. The WW2 scenes at the beginning were better than all of Saving Private Ryan. Ok, I'm just kidding, but seriously, they were good. The make up and gore effects were a tasty treat that's sure to give gorehounds that extra rush. Who says horror films can't be made with a big budget? This is a worthy installment to the Hannibal series. I'd recommend seeing it in theatres before it hits DVD. Do you want to see Hannibal Lecter as Jigsaw or vise-versa? Check this flick out.
