Thr3e Review

"Thr3e" gets a 3 from me because it's too much of a ripoff of "Se7en" and "Saw". Not only that, but it's a bad one. First off, let me say that I am a Christian who loves horror films and I do know that this movie was based on Christian author Ted Dekker's novel. It was made by "X-Men" producer Ralph Winter and was the first movie released by 20th Century Fox's "Fox Faith" division.
Unfortunately, director Robby Henson gives the whole thing very little intensity. I haven't read the novel, but ex-"Spawn" comic book writer Alan McElroy's screenplay isn't very original. Also, the actors don't act well, the budget is low and the movie is a light "PG-13". Now I know this is a Christian movie, but it could've benefitted by pushing the boundaries of the rating. Some gore would've been nice. Ultimately, "Thr3e" feels like a Saturday evening "movie of the week" that would appear on network television to gain big ratings.
However, as a horror fan I was delighted to see Bill Moseley!! That's right "The Devil's Reject" himself plays the killer. Or at least a part of the killer. You'll see what I mean if you see the film. Sadly, I don't give it a recommendation. If you want to see a great PG-13 horror film that explores Christian spirituality than watch "The Exorcism of Emily Rose" because "Thr3e" doesn't really comment on it.
