Eat Your Heart Out Review
Written by: Goon When I first heard of Eat Your Heart Out I was expecting something totally different then what I got when I popped this bad boy in my DVD player. It was initially billed as a zombie hooker film in which Melissa Bacelar would play the flesh hungry zombie. Well when I first picture a zombie I guess I always think of a nasty looking, rotting, shuffling and downright disgustngly decayed corpse. In this case I got none of that so instantly I was hooked by this new take on zombies. In fact watching this you wouldn't even really know she is a zombie.. well that is until she begins to consume human flesh which happens quite often. But lets start this off from the beginning. Jeffrey (Jack Dillon) is an everyday bachelor just going through the motions in a very dull life. He is a loser under all definetions of the word. He has absolutely no game with the women which just adds to the problem. So to satisfy his urges for sex he uses call girls. But he is more like one of those nice guys who always tries to ask the hookers out on "real" dates.. of course everytime he gets shot down. That is until a chance encounter with Pandora (played by the stunning Melissa Bacelar). Little does Jeffrey know that woman is more interested in his flesh then she is in his little date. That is until he lays it on heavy like he always does. This somehow touches her heart because all the men she has ever been with have treated her like a whore. Soon they begin to grow closer and closer together until Jeffrey proposes to her. But Pandora has a secret that she must reveal to him. How will he react? Well this entire time some one else has been hot on Pandora's trail. He has been killing just as many people as Pandora has on the way to get her for something she did to him in his past. The man is ruthless and will stop at nothing to get his revenge on Pandora and if he has to take out Jeffrey to do it.. so be it. First of all I have to say this indie flick has some of the best production value I have ever seen for an indie. Some fantastic locations in New York City with some crazy looking aerial shots and some great street level aesthics as well. All of this gives the film a very urban and gritty feel. New York City was probably the best place to put a story like this. Fits in very nicely with all the call girl services and the sheer amount of people. Its also a nice way to explain how Pandora was never caught in a huge city like NYC. The best part about this film however are the special FX that were done by Jeremy Selenfriend. I have no idea how he pulled off the kind of FX used in this film with an indie budget but he really pulled off some great looking stuff. If you are into gore you will definetly want to check out this guys work in this film. Guts, screw drivers in heads, flesh eating and all kinds of other hijinks are pulled out of chest cavities in this movie. Something you don't want to miss out on. Now there was something that I thought hurt this film slightly. That was the fact that even though the script appears to be something straight out of an E.C. Comic book, I didn't get that feel in the movie. I think if they had played up that sensibility this would have been a much better flick. The ending definetly has that E.C. vibe but unfortunately it wasn't played out that way. I guess it was played more with a straight face then a fun flick which I think would have definetly made it more appealing to a wider audience. That aside however its really a great looking flick with some spectacular special FX. The film also has an ample amount of nudity to please any horror fan from the 80s. Its good to see that a film about hookers delivers the goods. No word on any kind of distribution deal on this one yet but once we know we'll give you all the details.
