American Psycho Review
Written by: Dean Valent
American Psycho, that title makes me grin. It really does, and not simply because of the fascination with killers I have developed over the years. No. It is simply put, a dark comedy, a satire on the 1980's culture of the US, and is one of the best films I have ever seen. Oh, and it also makes me smile for this single line; "You're my lawyer and I think you need to know, I killed a lot of people!"
Fantastorific. The film follows out swauve, pretty boy Patrick Bateman (Christian Bale - Equilibrium, The Machinist, Batman Begins) as he leads his good life during the day, and follows his very dangerous obsession. Murder. With a blood splattered suit and nice hair cut. For he is a bee in the, well, bee hive of corporate America. His suit makes him blend in with the rest of the world, and his smooth personality allows his voice to come through like a robot.
It's all about oneupsmanship in this film. While they all blend into one majority, they always try to break out as themselves when no one is around. Never more so that Bateman. The rating of the movie is not so much for the violence either but for the sex scene in the film. And it really isn't that bad, so those of faint minds may only just need a triple heart bypass, and not a full blown instant death situation.
