Fritt Vilt (aka Cold Prey) Review

I was really excited when I got my hands on this DVD (Region 2). It didn't disappoint me at all.
Fritt Vilt (Cold Prey; english subtitle translation) is a Norwegian slasher film about a group of five friends who go to Jotunheimen, a mountain range in southern Norway, for a snowboarding getaway. Everything goes smoothly until one of them has a mishap, so they need to find shelter quickly because they have no time to get back to their car before it gets dark. They spot an abandoned hotel not far from where they are and end up breaking into it.
During the evening after warming up, they start to check out the old building and notice that there's something just not right. The last entry in the registry was back in the '70's, but there are many items in the basement that are new and not from that time period.
It seems like they aren't alone!
This is your routine slasher film but there is a classy style to it and it really works. The widescreen cinematography looked great.
There is no gore in it for the gore hounds, but there's some blood. Since there wasn't any gore, I never missed it because it has some truely tense horrific moments in it. Also the feeling of them being trapped was creepy with nowhere to go. The acting was decent. Better than alot of slasher flicks out there. I thought there was good character developement and they were all fairly believable. One guy should have had a little more balls though instead of wimping out.
The masked psychopath wearing winter clothing is a huge dude and pretty intimidating.
It is predictable but I really liked it and was glued to the screen. I could feel their terror. This is an excellent slasher film in it's own right. I don't think you will be disappointed in this Norwegian horror flick.
