This is my second review of "Believers". In my initial one I said the film was, "really a charm for Warner Home Video's "Raw Feed" division". I also gave the movie 8 skulls out of 10. Scratch that! While I do believe the pic is well-made, well-intentioned and IS a better effort than Raw Feed's previous two efforts ("Rest Stop" and "Sublime"), the movie itself is too slow and by the time the final twist comes, most will probably guess it. I'm changing my skull rating to 6 out of 10.  

The story of "Believers" is about two paramedics who are kidnapped by a religious cult that believes the end of the world is just hours away. The treatment by director Daniel Myrick (The Blair Witch Project) is sturdy and the acting by the entire cast is solid. Johnny Messner plays David, one of the paramedics, and the hero of the story. He is a married man with a baby on the way. He's also an athiest who manages to keep his head together when he's taken by the cult. His partner, on the other hand, is a Catholic who cracks under their pressure. They're kidnapped the moment they try to resurrect a female cult member who tried to go AWOL. She is supernaturally revived by her leader known only as "The Teacher" (played by Daniel Benzali, who is both creepy and convincing).

I absolutely hated the first two "Raw Feed" films. "Rest Stop" was creepy and stylish, but it didn't make a lick of sense. Ditto for its follow-up, the dull drama "Sublime", which was even more of an engima. However, "Believers"is completely understandable. It is compelling and terrifying, but fans of the horror genre will probably be better off with Fox's "Wrong Turn 2: Dead End". That movie is also a direct-to-video product, but it's a bit more enjoyable than "Believers".
