Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn Review

10 out of 10 Skulls
Written by: Ash's missing hand

Evil Dead 2 is a comedy disguised as a horror film. It looks like it is made to make us vomit lunch but, after watching it hundreds of times, it is very satirical. A group goes to a cottage in the woods and discover a rare copy of the Book of the Dead and accidentally unleash evil spirits. the spirits run wild dispatching members of the group in awesomely juicy ways. Our hero (Bruce Campbell) does his best to fight the forces of evil but is no match for the thing in the basement, in the woods, behind the doors, seemingly everywhere.

The f/x in this movie are wall-to-wall. My favorites are the skeleton dancing in the moonlight, and when he chops off his own hand and then has to do battle with it. If tons of gore are not your thing then stay away from this movie. But, if you love gore and have a sense of humor you will love this movie. Sam Raimi is a genius and you can tell was really inspired making this movie. The 3 stooges inspiration is obvious when Ash is getting his ass kicked by his own dismembered hand. The violence and gore are carried to such an extreme, in this movie, that it becomes surreal. This movie has a lovable quality that i feel is due to its low budget.

This movie has already gone down as a classic to us horror fiends and will dwarf any comparisons to it.
