Dawn of the Dead (1979) Review

10 out of 10 Skulls

This is the original version and is one of the best horror movies ever made. By now, everyone knows the premise of this movie. For the few of you that don't, it is about a mysterious plague that sweeps the nation and causes the recently dead to rise from their garves with an unrelel\nting hunger for human flesh.

George A. Romeron wrote and directed this as a sequel to his "Night of the Living Dead" from 1968.  The story opens in a panicked TV studio, where broadcasters are transmitting inaccurate information. The story eventually settles down  into a story about four survivors who hijack a helicopter, land on a roof of a mall, and barricade themselves inside from the zombies.

This movie is gruesome, sickening, violent, brutal, and appalling. It is also brilliant, funny, merciless, and satirical.
