Wicked Business Movie Review
Written by: Goon Sometimes movies just grow on you. Not often does it happen to me but every once and a while I will see a movie and not think too much of it. But as with Wicked Business I began to look back at certain elements of the film and began to like quite a few scenes and then it makes you think back to what you didn't like. With an indie film you will always have certain issues that are always prevalent but when you are watching a horror flick in the first place you shouldn't be too worried about them unless they are god awful. Which is not the case with Wicked Business. I think what really made me enjoy this film though was that even though it borrows a lot from other films, it manages to mix it up enough to make it uniquely its own. The film is about a small group of co-workers from a debt-collection agency that receive death threats in the mail. Together they must try and figure out who put the curse on them and why. It's a story filled with over the top death scenes, a nice dose of humor and some supernatural elements as well. It is kind of like The Office meets Final Destination. My biggest complaint with the film would have to be the music. I just wasn't feeling the score that they chose to use. With a limited budget I can understand a films peril with trying to afford a decent score but I wish they would have left some of the 80s rock at home for this one. Something else that felt really odd was the opening scene. It felt like something that someone else had shot as an afterthought and it wasn't that impressive to start out the film that way. I would suggest to just cut the scene out and simply reference it in the movie. However this movie did have some of the coolest death scenes I have seen in a an indie in awhile. Even though they were taken right out of Final Destination they were insane. You could really tell that they spent a lot of time making sure these scenes were bad ass and in the end they really do pay off. An example of one of the funnier death scenes in the film is when one of the workers gets stabbed in eye with a vibrator. As it is in his head it is still on causing it to buzz. Inventive and very funny at the same time. Not all of the death scenes are so funny but they all have kind of an ironic twist to them. I was also impressed with how many locations they were able to secure on such a small project. It seems like that had almost an unlimited amount of places to film at. Just because I think it needs to be mentioned the woman involved in the love scene has a smokin body and I'm glad we get to see it. Too often films give us a little tease and that's it but finally there is an indie film that took it all the way. Overall I think every horror fan will be able to appreciate this film as a great indie effort. Its got all the essentials of a great horror flick and ultimately I think this is a film that will grow on you as well. - Luke Franklin
