War of the Worlds (2005) Review

This is a big movie with excellent visuals, but lacks the energy and joy that is typical of a Spielberg movie. The story and characters aren't very well developed and the aliens attack earth for no real good reason. It is like a catastrophe movie, but you don't care who makes it and who doesn't. Martians have travelled billions of miles to attack a crane operator and his kids.

Tom Cruise does alot of running and hiding with his kids. The aliens buried huge machines all over Earth. They activate them with lightning bolts, and then they come up from underground and start zapping people with their death rays.

Sometimes, tentacles come out to suck our blood.  Despite all that, the movie has great F/X and CGI shots. There are some really great looking shots and action sequences in the movie.
