Blade Review
Written by: Ash's missing hand
Blade (Wesley Snipes) is a killer of vampires who has waged an armageddon kind of war for the future of mankind. His mother was bitten by a vampire while pregnant, infecting her child, who lived in the streets until being taken in by a man named Whistler (Kris Kristofferson). Whistler masterminds the war against the vampires. Blade is a major threat to the vampires, whose influence spreads through major cities. A secret after-hours club is where victims are lured, only to be bitten and converted.
Blade encounters Dr. Karen Jensen (N'Bushe Wright), a blood specialist, who has been bitten by a badly burned vampire brought to the emergency room. Blade takes her to Whistler's lab for an injection of liquid garlic, in order to save her life. Whistler's serum keeps Blade on the human side, although he is building up a resistance to it.
Blade's archenemy is Deacon Frost (Stephen Dorff) who is also half-human and dreams of a final uprising against humans and world conquest. His rival in the vampire world is Dragonetti (Udo Kier), a pure vampire who likes the current arrangement under which vampires secretly control key organizations to protect their interests. Frost's plan involves the summoning of an ancient vampire to lead them in their final conquest.
There are alot of major action scenes that are very well done. The comic book style of shooting and strong performances, especially by Snipes, make this one of the better comic book adaptations.
