Feast Review

9 out of 10 Skulls

My first review-I may try a little to hard to not put in spoilers and not make the greatest review.  But, I have to start somewhere, right?

So, for Feast we have a direct-to-dvd special that will suck since it didn't get wide distribution right?  Oh, heck no!  From beginning to end, this film, I felt was pure entertainment.  I myself found the character descriptions not only original, but funny.  I remember reading an interview with someone behind this movie and they said that considering the budget, they are putting more in towards the gore angle.  I for one love that.  I don't know how big of a distribution Evil Dead/AoD got, but I think this film (especially since it has 2 sequels in the works already), can make a very admirable run at carrying with it the following Bruce's trilogy received and has maintained.

This piece of cinema had no big explosions, or big names acting in it.  It found it's way with content (verbal and visual), and it actually had a story.
What some of my friends found shocking about this was those behind the camera.  You have 3 of the biggest (and most respected?) names in Hollywood today with Wes Craven, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck.  The film stars?  Well, Krista Allen (Baywatch, Emmanuelle in Space), Balthazar Getty (Manchurian Candidate, The Omen), and Jason Mewes (every Kevin Smith movie-Clerks 1&2, Dogma, Jay and Silent Bob Strike back, Mallrats, and Arquette's The Tripper). So, you have these aliens from god know where, who have animal skins covering them, they go on a rampage and just try to kill everything in sight.  There is a small bar in the desert, full of people who really don't care much about each other.  And aliens who want them all dead.

...oh, did I mention Henry Rollins is in this?  Looking at his Wrong Turn 2 performance, I think he can make every character he does in these kinds of movies an instant classic, again, like Bruce did with Ash, only this would be Henry with multiple movies and characters. This is one of my favorite films, and I have seen (and own) what some would probably consider too many.  If you thought this review was good or think I am lacking  something, or need to just stop, inform me.
