AVP Requiem Review
Written by: Shakingman
Well, I'm just back from a packed house theatre (on Christmas Day) and we all witnessed the rebirth of the Alien/Predator franchise.
AVP Requiem starts at a certain pace and keeps going - never letting up. Although the humans place in the film seems only to act as dispensible beings to appease our thirst for blood and gore - the story line follows a small town of folks and their mundane lives until, of course, the arrival of Predalien!
But Predator won't sit back - he ships himself on to Earth to defeat this hybrid - which I kind of felt why would it if it's half Predator? But...the hatred is still there and the Predalien breeds little pissant aliens that start the take out of the humans in town.
Enter Commando O'Brien - just back from her military service in "where ever" - she leads the dim witted humans to safety in an armored tank that once belonged to the inept military that came to rescue the town but persihed in its pursuit.
Does the story sag - yeah sure - but the action doesn't let up. It's 94 minutes of pure Alien/Predator war with a few humans tossed in to get in the way and allow us our bloodletting.
These creatures, both Alien and Predator on first viewing in their original films, once terrified me, but now having been acquainted with them for so many years - I have become desensitized to their existence and although the film never once got me to the edge of my seat - I did enjoy it for the shear pleasure of seeing them back on the screen. This film will do well and a third installment is guaranteed.
I'm giving AVP R an 8 of out 10 just because they entertained me for 1 1/2hours on this rainy, dark day in Decemeber.
