Attic, The (2008) Review
Written by: prddad
When Meh put out this weeks movies, and I saw the votes for it, I realized I had to say something. And oooooooh will I. Mary Lambert, director of the classic PET SEMETARY (but not so classic PET SEMETARY 2), director of the direct-to-video URBAN LEGENS: BLOODY MARY (which wasn't so bad), this follow up makes me wish I used my free rental on something else...like something with a story...and acting...
Plot...family moves into a house, daughter has a fear of the attic, then one day when she hears noises from it, she goes up and sees "herself" (we'll get there in a minute), and from there supernatural things start to happen...ok, I'm stopping with that. As cool as that might sound to some, I"m sorry, but that story has been done over, and over, and over, and over...you get the idea. I want something a little different. But do I? Of course not. Ask for ham, you get spam (mmmm). The characters seem to be one-sided with no depth to their personalities, and you'll get tired and bored after about 20 minutes, or, if you ARE interested, wait until the paramedic shows up. Then it goes doooooooown hill...
Acting...I thought these were friends of the director that she asked to do a movie with her, then realized that some of these people actually have done movies before. John Savage (lots of direct to videos) stars as the dad, but doesn't seem to be having his best acting day here. The main character, Elisabeth Moss (?, but IMDB seems to have her on lots of shows that no one watches) acts as though she is trying to act. I'm sorry but in a scene that requires (in my opinion) you to be scared, you can't have your face show confusion, you lips slightly smiling, and you talk like you want to yell. IT'S NOT POSSIBLE!!!...
Gore...you fucking serious? I get more gore cutting open a frozen chicken than this flop...
Nudity...wouldn't have done nothing for me if there was...
CGI...probably, but so cheaply done they probably got a recommendation from the SCI-FI channel producers...
Scares...here is the tricky part: some parts had me (a woman on the porch, in a rocker, her body shaking; the part in the attic at the beginning), but then some parts are just cloned crap from other movies (shadows walking). I'm sorry, but I expected something...good...
Bottom line...I'd rather rewatch MR. WOODCOCK (which SUCKED!!!) then rewatch this movie...
