The Craft (1996) Review

9 out of 10 Skulls

Another classic here, only on...horror-movies.ca!!! Kinda like a radio station, isn't it, playing those oldies. Except here, we know what the classics are, and no, this isn't one of them. This is a tale of how bitchy women can be (please don't hate me :)), and how spiteful they can become...

Plot...when the new girl in school is a witch, the other "witches" accept her, and thru a book they steal from the local spirtitual store, they start performing spells (changing of eye color, hair color), then more elaborate ones (curing dead skin cells on burnt girl, changing the whole body), eventually driving the new girl out of the group. Soon, moving towards the climax of the movie, it will be her against them...I remember the day this movie had come out, I just graduated from high school at the time. I had saw it w/my girlfriend, and thought, "Damn that would be cool to do!" But then you see movies like THE COVENANT, and realize, "Damn that would be cool to do!" The idea is fresh and very exciting, and I never felt one boring part throughout the movie...

Acting...as I did in DEEP BLUE SEA, I'm just going to name the cast because with it being 10 years later, most of these actors/actresses have gone on to excellent careers: Robing Tunney (first season of PRISON BREAK); Fairuza Balk (WATERBOY); Neve Campbell (WILD THINGS, mmmm); Rachel True (HALF & HALF, HALF BAKED); Skeet Urich (JERICHO); and Christine Taylor (anything her husband Ben Stiller is in :))...

Nudity...none, but god damnit how i prayed each time...

CGI...plenty, and all quality as well...

Gore...nah...

Scares...nah...

Bottom line...if you haven't seen it, go watch it. If you have already watched it prior, revisit the past. See if it has stood the test of time over the last 10 years. You'd be suprised...
