Hello Mary Lou Prom Night 2 Review

Prom Night 2 is another sequel that really isn't. Much like Halloween 3, it is a sequel in name only and has nothing to do with the original Prom Night. This is not a bad thing though because it is a very good movie and besides, if they didn't call it Prom Night 2, then Hello Mary Lou would not have rhymed....Basically the story revolves around Mary Lou, a trampy 50's teen who is accidentally burned to death right after being elected Prom Queen by her jilted boyfriend who catches her cheating on him at the dance. Mary Lou's spirit remained at the High School for 30 years, until her rest is inadvertently disturbed by Vicki right before her Prom.

This movie is a lot of fun and embodies everything that 80's horror movies represent. Watching it again made me want to go back and start revisiting a lot of other 80's Horror flicks that I have not seen for years.  The acting is cheesy but fun, the music is generic but works well and the special effects are all practical, with the exception of an electrocution that makes TRON look like Lord of the Rings. There are some cool kill scenes (I especially liked the one in the locker room!)  Although not that gory they are well executed and a lot of fun.

I spent most of the movie thinking Wow! This is fun…with the exception of the all girl shower make out scene when I was thinking WOW! Full frontal! Anyway, If you are a big fan of 80's Horror, don't let this one pass you by, if like me, you haven't check it out since the 80's then go pick it up, it is definately worth a watch.
