1408 (2007) Review

5 out of 10 Skulls

I have issues with this being labelled 'based on the terrifying story by Stephen King' since the story in question is only 35 pages long so the vast majority of this film is based on someone elses imagination entirely.

This tells the story of a writer who has made it his mission since his daughter's death, to investigate all manor of hauntings and ghost sightings.  He has disproved them all so far and he now moves his attention to room 1408 of the Dolphin Hotel.  The manager is not happy and tries to put him off which only makes him more determined.

The scenes in the room are quite atmospheric at times and there are a few jump scares but nothing really outstanding or original.  That said, its quite well done, John Cusack is really good but it is not scary at all which i would expect to be a requirement when something is claiming to be 'terrifying'.  Mind you, the worlds jumpiest woman sitting next to me in the cinema might disagree with that lol.
