War of the Worlds (2005) Review

9 out of 10 Skulls

This movie was, I thought, really good. They made the alien war machines more like in the book from my understanding. The effects were excelent, with the death rays blazing up the population. You could see the expresion on the people when they were being zapped, and you can feel the emotion of it. It had the best aliens I've ever seen, so I'm not suprised they didn't show it on the previews.

It was a very creative way of describing how the ships got to earth for the invasion. If you haven't seen the movie I won't blow it for you, but it's not your typical land and wipe out story. That's all I'm saying. The only proplem I had with the movie was the main charactors. Tom Cruises' charactor was the typicl fast cars no worries kinda kid who never grew up, who his children hate. But as the story goes on he does grow up tring to protect them, so I can buy that. What I can't buy are his kids.

He has a 6 or 7 year old daughter whos smarter than him and talks down to him, and a 13 or 14 year old typical rebelious son, who hates him too. Through out the movie people are getting killed all around them, and Toms tring to protect them and get them to thier mothers house, and these kids are just going to wander off and do what they want. Toms' charactor tells them to stay they run off. He tells them to stay close they run off. He tells them to be quiet and they yell. This happens for about an hour and a half, they were driving me so crazy, and I was just praying that they both died very horrible painful deaths. But the overall story kept true in spirit to the original and I was happy about that.
