30 Days of Night (2007) Review

"When man comes up against something he can't destroy, he destroys himself instead" one of my favorite lines in the movie by the lead vampire Marlow. My hopes were high going into this one, and i gotta say i was not let down! 30 Days of Night was easily the best vampire movie i have seen in years! I can hardly wait to see it agian. This movie was a refreshing new look for the genre or sub-genre i suppose, and they put together a great story evolving around an awsome setting!
In Barrow, Alaska, the northernmost town in the U.S, the winter sun sets and does not rise for 30 days and nights. From the darkness comes an evil force that strikes terror on the town, and all hope is pinned on a husband-and-wife cop team, all they have to do is last the thirty days until the sun return's to the sky, can the town survive this evil?
I absolutly loved the story and setting for this film, what a great idea! The cast was pretty good, i am a fan of Josh Hartnett, also Melissa George was great in this film, but solid performance's from all the cast, and i really liked the "Stranger" played by Ben Foster, he's the one who says "That cold ain't the weather, that's death approaching." that was a great line and his character added a bit of suspence to the story and a touch of creepyness, and i can't forget Marlow the leader of this pack of bloodthirsty vampires, his character comes of as a very intelligent yet cold and methodical.
David Slade did an awsome job directing this film, the action scenes were all very memorable with bloody and burning bodies flying around, he really captured the mayhem going on all around. the gore was not massive but was there and the F/X was done very well here especially **SPOILER** the scene where Hartnett chopes of his partners head with an axe, its bloody and the camera don't shy away...awsome decapitation!!!**END SPOILER**
This is a must see in my humble opinion, overall it had a great "look" and "feel" to it, the settings were nice, solid acting, great action and plenty of great dialoge make this movie totally awsome in my book!
