Land of the Dead Review

6 out of 10 Skulls

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Romero works best with low budgets. This movie was way too hollywood for my taste. Its an interesting concept for the story to progress where the zombies begin to be able to think and have something of toddler's IQ. But therein also lies the problem with this movie, zombies with guns and butcher knives just isnt scary. Its just like giving a bunch of brain dead people some guns and weapons and setting them loose in public. The zombies scariness comes from their savagery, and it is rarely shown here.

Another problem i had with this film is the main zombie leader, i believe his name was big daddy in the credits. I do not want to see a zombie leader or any kind of creature leader for that matter. This is also what made me angry during I AM LEGEND. No particular zombie in my opinion should stand out amongst the others. It takes on a different sense of a movie.

I think romero dropped the ball on this movie, as much as I love him and his previous work, i was highly dissapointed with this one. Although pretty well scripted, and quite original in terms of story, it just was lacking something...
