Poltergeist (1982) Review

8 out of 10 Skulls

This was one of the very first horror movies I have ever seen. I was about 8 when I first seen it, and it scared the crap out of me. I have always looked upon this movie as one of my favorite horror movies and will always have a place in my top 10. In fact, up until I seen Salem's Lot (1979) when I was 11, this was my number 1 horror movie. Anyway, let's talk about the movie itself. The acting was pretty good. I really like the little girl and how creepy she is.

When she utters the words "They're Here" a really thick chill runs down your spine. Good child actors are good to come by, so that girl is a really rare gem. The character buildup and dialog are also above average. The directing and the camera angles were really good. The movie looked really good, and gave the feel of a true haunting movie. The really weird thing about this movie is how it is rated PG. A lot of kids see this movie, which makes a lot of sense. The feeling of this movie is overall user freindly, and the only scene I really think deserves an R-rating is that scene in the bathroom when the guy rips his own face off.

Yea, that scene is really creepy. I'd recomend this movie to any Tobe Hooper fan, anybody who is a fan of haunted house movies, or just any horror fan in general. This movie is pretty tame compared to other movies of its time, but this movie scared me a lot more than a lot of R-rated movies. Just about any kid could handle this movie, though. A lot of horror fans can call this movie the "First Horror Movie They'd Ever Watched".
