9 out of 10 Skulls

Young thugs fleeing from the cops hold up in a sleazy Bed n' Brekkie and quickly find themselves at the mercy of a seriously fucked up, sadistic family.

How ironic a film fest like After Dark, promising films too intense for general audiences, yanked this one from the original roster because it was...well...too intense for general audiences (it got slapped with an NC-17). Is it all that? I will say this, what it lacks in orginality it more than makes up for in balls-out violence, brutality and bloodshed.

It also manages to be totally gripping, well-shot and miles ahead of anything released by AD Bore-Fest (Borderland is a close second, but this trumps it big time). On the down-side, the characters we're to root for aren't particularly likeable and this does borrow liberally from films like Haute Tension, TCM and Hostel.

But, really, these are minor flaws when you consider the dog-shite coming out of hollywood. This really delivers the hard stuff and will no doubt make many fans of real horror's "Top 10 of 2008" (even though it was technically 2007).
