Night of the Living Dead sparked the entire zombie genre of movies, and in my opinion, Night of the Living Dead is still the scariest. Night of the Living Dead is part of a 5 (soon to be 6) movie series directed by George A. Romero. The first 3 movies in Romero's Dead series have been remade. There have also been several unofficial sequels to the series. (Zombi 2, Zombi 3, Day of the Dead 2)

Night of the Living Dead starts off the story about zombies taking over the world. Barbra and her brother, Johnny are visiting a graveyard to place some flowers on their grandfathers grave. This is when they begin to notice strange people walking around the graveyard. It turns out that these people are zombies. After Johnny is killed, Barbra runs to a farmhouse where she hides with a small group of survivors.

Night of the Living Dead was shot in black and white EVEN THOUGH color was available. The black and white image adds to the atmosphere and makes the movie extremely dark and even more disturbing. Even though this movie came out in 1968, a large amount of it could still creep out a modern audience. There are good scenes involving zombies eating various characters, as well as a few very disturbing death scenes.

Night of the Living Dead also gives us some great direction and character development. Most of the characters in Night of the Living Dead are very interesting, and well thought out, unlike most modern zombie movies. The interesting characters really help the movie progress, which makes viewing all that more pleasurable. The acting is also another great thing about the characters. Each actor/actress fit their character well, and worked well with the rest of the cast.

Night of the Living Dead is a claustrophobic movie as well. Most of it takes place in a small, boarded up farmhouse, When this is mixed with Romero’s great directed, the viewer feels boarded up in the farmhouse as well. This is one of the characteristics that really make Night of the Living Dead a great movie. If you haven’t seen Night of the Living, Dead, you need to. It's all over Youtube, and can be found very cheap at various dvd retailers.
