The Devils Rejects Review
Written by: Orphan This is my first review here, so take it easy on me, ya' slimes. Name's Orphan, here we go... "Maybe if I was a little more sick or maybe if they were a little less sick, I like to think that the Rejects and I could have been friends." This is the feeling I was left with as I left the theatre after having watched Rob Zombie's "House Of 1000 Corpses" sequel "The Devil's Rejects". That is, of course, if they weren't planning to cut my face off and use it as a coaster. No matter what anyone else says about the movie, Zombie did something that not a whole lot of people can do...he made you love the bad guys. At several points throughout the movie I found myself, and several others in the theatre, cheering and laughing when Otis, Baby , or Captain Spaulding did something completely horrifying and evil. Hell, we almost loved them for it. Also, I dare to not have a crush on Baby when it's all over. I freakin' dare you. Still having said all this, there were a few things about the movie that, for me, didn't work. First off was the camera work during the carnage and violence sequences. It felt like the camera was being run by an epileptic six-grader. I want to see what's going on not just get the jist of it. Also, I felt that Zombie just couldn't find the right balance between the horror and the comedy, there was never really a smooth transition between the two. And, finally, what the hell happened with the two bounty hunters at the end there? They just disappeared. I wanted the Rejects to get them too, you know? And you want to know what really disturbed me: the poor, poor level of dental hygeine in this movie. I mean, almost everyone in the movie looked like they had been eating nothing but licorice and glass. But, in the end, I felt satisfied at having sat through two hours of carnage and coming out the over side feeling giddy. The ending, which you can see coming a mile away, leaves you feeling more than a little sad. In an odd way, you don't want the Rejects to leave but, in truth, there was no other way for the movie to end. Go see it, if for no other reason than to support horror flicks but mostly because for the first time in a long time, someone made a REAL horror movie. You can't ask for much more than that. Later Days. This is a community member review and not a staff member review. We appreciate and respect the opinions of our readers and are gratefull that they took the time to contribute it.
