Candyman Review

Candyman is a true Gothic Horror by the legendary Clive Barker.  Don't let the name fool you because it is anything , but sweet.Set against an urban backdrop, student Helen Lyles sets out to write her thesis on local legends. She eventually sets her sights on the myth of Candyman who is said to haunt the Cabrini Green projects .  If you stand in front of a mirror and call his name 5 times, he will appear and you will meet  a bloody demise.  In Helen's obsession to get a story she travels further and further down a rabit hole til there's no turning back.

As a child this movie scared the shit out of me. I didn't ever want to go to the bathroom again. The thing that makes this movie so scary is the backstory and that there are mirrors everywhere.  Clive Barker is a story teller and it is evident because Candyman's back story plays out like a creepy, and twisted fable. Not to mention that the bloody hook and bees add to the scare factor.

I also thought the movie was cool because it introduced a black horror icon that was set in an Urban area.
