INSIDE Review

9 out of 10 Skulls

Starring Alysson Paradis and Beatrice Dalle. This unforgettable film opens to a violent car crash involving a pregnant woman. She and the expectant survive to your relief, but there are soon other threats that compromise this poor woman and her unborn child.

The movie centers around this mother-to-be being stalked by another woman who would like nothing more than forcibly free this nestling from the womb..with scissors! I won't give too much away but you're in for one messy ride and this easily rates up their with the best of the new French wave of extreme cinema. Slashings, Eye Gougings, as Joe Bob would say "gratuitous Scissor-Fu", a killer (sic) performance from Dalle (who also stars in Trouble Every Day co-starring Vincent Gallo, an equally over the top exercise in French arthouse gore that's worth checking out if you're into these kinds of things.)

Generally one of the most unsettling premises you can imagine brought to fruition for your ocular enjoyment. Granted a couple of the performances are typical of this genre and the violence is truly explicit but for me it worked effectively where many others don't, even considering the twist ending. Creepy atmosphere and good performances from the two leads keeps the suspense on high.

If you like your films on the darker side and aren't squeamish (or pregnant) then I suggest you get INSIDE.
