American Zombie (2007) Review

8 out of 10 Skulls

I enjoyed this mockumentary.  It was very inventive and an intelligent look into the imagined social impact of living life as a zombie.  There was an underlying humorous attitude throughout the film, and the look was mostly documentary style with a bit of “Blair Witch” towards the end of the movie.

The characters were very quirky and out of the ordinary in a way that made them seem more like normal people.  Micki Schloss plays Frank Velasco – a private detective who finds missing people – and I laughed hysterically at his mannequin scene.  I even had to re-watch the scene a couple of times to get all of the hilarity out of my system.  It was just a perfectly-edited piece of film.

My netflix synopsis said, “unabashed gore-fest”, so I was a bit disappointed that there was little to no gore.  The creativity of the movie was entertaining enough that I didn’t mind the lack of gore, but I will defiantly stop listening to what netflix has to say about movies.  I give American Zombie 4 out of 5 hairy eyeballs.
