Night of the Living Dead Review

10 out of 10 Skulls

The first dead film i ever saw that made me crawl back for more. Not as gory as the other instalments in the series... or was it? The fact that it was done in black and white left more to the imagination as far as what the blood looked like. For the most part the blood was dark and there was a lot of it in the movie. It was an important movement in the horror genre. George wasn't afraid to show gore and that would later lead on to more Dead sequels and other gorey movies. The plot of the movie was such a simple one and yet it was an awesome metaphor in itself. It took someone with a very good imagination to come up with that, since most movies lack that nowadays anyway.

The Acting in the movie was good for 1968 (a shout out to Duane Jones who was the best actor they had) and the dialogue was good. Sometimes pointing out the obvious but thats okay, sometimes you need to get the peoples attention more. The metaphors for racial tension in 1968 was also unheard of. George did an awesome movie and had some guts for filming it in Black and White instead of color. He shot the movie very good. The camera angles were perfect and were always at the perfect distance during the shoots. Especially in the scene when Ben shoots the zombie with the rifle near the gas pump and the zombie stumbles but keeps going for him.

The prize of the movie though is the half eaten head on the top of the stairs. That was an awesome piece of SFX to be done. And the score was good. It had that old movie feel but it also had something that others movies use now and thats the "thumping bass" as I like to call it. Its basically just some one playing bass and hitting about three notes every so often. It gave the movie a creepy feel and also made the movie seem to speed up. It was the best music from the film. It had other good sound effects as well. The bottles breaking, the gunshots, and the truck explosion were good.

Overall i love this movie yet it is my least favorite of the series. And that says a lot since I really like this movie, check it out for sure!
