Jack Brooks Monster Slayer Review

Jack Brooks Monster Slayer just molested me in the kinda way you want the hot science teacher from your highschool days to molest you. Its that kinda good. I have been waiting to checkout Jack Brooks Monster Slayer for far to long and finally just as its about to street I had that chance. A Canadian production Jack Brooks has gotten rave reviews and for once its all deserving. Movies like The Rise of Leslie Vernon got billed as the greatest movie ever made, Hatchet was praised as being true American Horror but Jack Brooks Monster Slayer blows them away. It is horror as I remember it and brings back memories of when I first saw Army of Darkness. Jack Brooks Monster Slayer is an ass kicking good time that delivers what we as horror fans deserve. A funny and entertaining experience heavy on good writing and great PRACTICAL FX and missing the lame ass CGI fx and the crappy WB TV stars. The premise of the film gos like this;
No one would ever believe what happened the night Jack Brooks witnessed the brutal murder of his family. His life destroyed, all he has left is an unquenchable fury he's now fighting to control. Now the local plumber, Jack continuously struggles with his memories as his life becomes a downward spiral until his girlfriend Eve convinces him to attend night classes. Little does he know that in that dank, tiresome classroom, his destiny awaits. Evil awakens as Jack unknowingly disturbs the grounds surrounding Professor Crowley 's dilapidated old home. Lured by this ancient demonic power, Crowley discovers a monstrous black heart that quickly forces its way into him. Possessed by the heart now beating in his chest, the Professor starts a slow, gruesome, transformation... One night, as Crowley bursts into a creature of legends, Jack finally discovers the true purpose of his rage as he attempts to save the lives of his classmates and learns that you can't run from your past...
The entire cast of this movie shines and their delivery combined with great writing, great FX and some fun laughs make Jack Brooks Monster Slayer a gem. Its not about tits an ass, its not just about the gore and its not about shooting off a bunch of cliche one liners. Its a great cast, some interesting and unique writing and some damn cool fx that give this movie a knock out punch of kick-ass-ness. ( Yes thats a word.. .really it is )
Robert Englund without question shines in this film as a science teacher who digs up something evil and quickly turns his night school into a deranged monsterfest of killings. Roberts comedy timing is perfect and although the movie is quite gorey and gruesome at times and sometimes pretty out right disgusting you can always find a reason to laugh when Robert is on the screen.
Jack Brooks Monster Slayer is a horror comedy with plenty of gore but also plenty of tongue in cheek humor. Without question in my mind this movie is destined to be a cult classic. If you like movies like Army of Darkness you will love Jack Brooks Monster Slayer. Although not quite as good as Army of Darkness this movie is the first refreshing and truly outstanding horror comedy I have seen in years and the closest to touching the magic of Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell. Sequel anyone? I say hell yes!
