Halloween II Review

8 out of 10 Skulls

Starting right where we left off with Laurie Strode and the Boogeyman who's been hounding her and her friends all night long, Halloween II doesn't skip a beat even if it was filmed a few years later.

This film takes place mostly in the local hospital where Laurie has been taken for treatment following her ordeal. But we soon find she isn't safe anywhere, even a place containing slutty nurses, hard-partying doctors, and security guard who doesn't offer much security.

While Carpenter did not helm this sequel, he did co-write the script so you won't notice much of a difference in Rick Rosenthal's style. I feel he managed to remain true to the story as well as the atmosphere. It may not be as heralded as the original but it makes mark. There is a bit more gore and loads more deaths. We also find out some intriguing facts about our characters like exactly why Michael is so hell-bent on chasing this girl down.

Jamie Lee Curtis and Donald Pleasence both return along with a smattering of others from the first time out to complete the idea that this is the same night. I really have to applaud the continuity in this respect as sequels are rarely done with such love and care.
I really enjoy watching these films back to back to get the effect that was intended.
