My Bloody Valentine Review

3 out of 10 Skulls

Perhaps the first 80s "slasher" film that should have received a PG-13 rating!  I was amazed at how litle gore there was in this film.  The acting was awful and if you can't figure out who is doing the killing, you need to turn in your "horror buff" card.  This one (a Canadian rip-off of the American slasher film) came after Halloween and Friday the 13th, and started a downward spiral of this genre.  In fact, the movie was so lame it took me three times before I could finish it.

The story is supposedly about the ghost of a deranged miner who (20 years prior) had gone off his rocker and killed several of his mining buddies.  Now the town has been "cursed" and warned never to celebrate Valentine's Day again.  So what happens:  a bunch of teenagers decide to have a Valentine's Day party--in the mine!  NOTE TO SELF:  Yes; they all deserve to die.  Although some new (and interesting) ways to die are introduced, the follow-throughs are just plain cheap and tedious.

This movie is rated R for minimal violence and language.  Its run time is 90 minutes, and it was directed by George Mihalka.  I understand a remake has been completed and will be shown in 3-D.  Anything would be better than the original.
