Black Sheep Review
Written by: BlackTequilaKiss
I had to write this review after being reminded how much I love this movie. Black Sheep was a movie that did get me for a while. When I watched it I had not idea of what to expect and was wondering if I had let myself in for a disappointment. Thankfully I couldn't have been more wrong.
While the movie takes a while to get going you immediately find a cast of actors who you come to loathe and love with equal passion. Both Henry and Experience (the name of Danielle Mason's character still for me generate quite a fair few laughs!) get your sympathy from the start and make you understand where their characters come from in the movie. As much as you love them there is a deep hatred for Angus (played by Peter Feeney) who throughout the entire movie you are rooting to get killed or roasted in some barbaric fashion
The genius of Black Sheep is in the script, writing and directing. The comedy in the movie is not in your face but rather more subtle (if you'll excuse a few scenes) and touching. The writing of the script is simplicity itself which is where the movie shows its great height of maturity and understanding. Instead of trying to confuse or manipulate the situation, director Jonathan King, gives you a straight simple story that allows you to focus on other compartments of the film.
The gore that does occur is within the same vein as the 80's style of Braindead which adds to the level of the movie. Black Sheep moves along at a good pace and allows you to enjoy a movie that is both funny, touching and horrifying, sometimes all at once. It neither tries to patronise or anger the people for whom the movie is aimed at and for that reason alone it is worth the money.
It has been a long time since I have seen a movie that has ticked all the boxes and been able to make me both laugh out loud and go eww in one viewing. For this reason alone Black Sheep is an awesome movie that was worthy of the respect it recieved. All that's left to be said is go and watch this and you will be guaranteed a good time. Brilliant, just absolutely brilliant.
