Babylon AD Review

Babylon AD is very glossy and splashy with its visual FX but true to most Vin Diesel movies it lacks any true substance and once again they decide to give Vin one to many lines to the point where the film really comes apart. I am a big fan of Vin Diesel's ever since Pitch Black and he plays the ass kicking badguy-hero very well. Unfortunately this film only managed to hold it together for the first 30minutes before it loses task and goes way astray. The plot of Babylon AD goes as follows;
A young woman (Mélanie Thierry) has been genetically tampered with, possessing a virus that could kill the human race. A mercenary (Vin Diesel) is hired to escort the woman from a post-apocalyptic Russia to New York City.
They are accompanied by a nun (Michelle Yeoh). Veteran-turned-mercenary Thoorop takes the high-risk job of escorting a woman from Russia to China. Little does he know that she is host to an organism that a cult wants to harvest in order to produce a genetically modified Messiah.
As noted visually the film is very impressive. Great FX some interesting landscapes and a really cool look at a future earth that is not in the to distant future. The film starts out very strong with Vin playing the typical 'screw you' good guy. Lots of action, lots of explosive ass kicking and witty one liners. Then the movie collapses. It almost felt like they switched directors or writers half way through the movie. The fight scenes became cliche, the dialogue got as cheesy as it gets and Vin Disel was The Pacifier all over again.
Although Babylon AD has a very cool story and concept and is a fun action film it really loses so much of its focus at the end that it is regrettable. I would say fans of Vin's should definitely rent this but I am not sure its worth a buy.
