Resident Evil: Degeneration (2008) Review
Written by: prddad
Ok, there exists 2 groups in this world: those that love Resident Evil/games, and those that love Resident Evil/movies. You can be in both groups, but you’ll never admit it. You can “LIKE” both groups, but your love will always be for one over the other. So, coming into this review, I will be the first to admit that the games are it…plain and simple. I like the movies, but who the hell is Alice in any of them???
Probably one of the zombies that I took out in the mansion the first time I played through it. You remember the mansion: creepy place, the backyard leads to the servants quarters, and I broke my first PS2 remote control when the full motion video kicked in after I was inside the mansion from the servants quarters, that lizard f*ck that took my head clean off with one swipe, and I just remembered that I hadn’t saved my game in hours!!! Yeah, I remember, therapy helped until now…J
Anywho, when I started seeing trailers for this, I knew I was there. So, 9am, called off of work to be at Best Buy to buy it, took it home, sneaked it in like I did with my first adult movie, and watched it. Surround sound on, 37” TV showing me all that I have waited for for so long. And, like any movie where the virgin is trying to get laid before the end of the movie, I waited and waited and waited for some signs of the classic Resident Evil that I grew up loving. Sure, the characters are there…Oh, wait, I should explain for those Resident Evil/movie fans reading this. In our Resident Evil 2, there were two playable characters: Leon Kennedy, rookie cop for Raccoon City; and, Claire Redfield, sister of Chris Redfield, from our first Resident Evil, non-existant in yours. But, to give kudos to the movies, Jill Valentine from Resident Evil 2/movies was hot J. To continue, Claire & Leon worked together to get out of Raccoon City, and afterwards they went their own separate ways, Claire to Resident Evil: Code Veronica, Leon to Resident Evil 4, neither of them are in the movies.
Ok, forget the Resident Evil/movie fans, if you are confused and don’t know how to use a joystick, go get the books, very good reads.
Anyways, back to the movie. Resident Evil: Degeneration takes place 7 years later after the destruction of Raccoon City, and now a new pharmaceutical company is in charge of the research/notes/paperwork that Umbrella left behind. And of course they are idiots and just have to “accidently” have the virus unleashed to have an infection. Ok, I’m stopping there because that is really all you need to know. Oh, and zombies are only in a portion of the movie. Afterwards, it’s all about the unleashed virus and man’s willingness to be stupid.
I was going to give this movie a lower rating, but Meh knows his sh*t, and I have to admit, it’s nice to see those short FMV cutscenes from the games in one long sequence, with a plot behind it, and finally on american soil. Everyone, go buy it!!! Seriously, turn off your computers now and go buy it!!!
