Cold Prey Review
Written by: Cerone
After the slasher wave that was the 90's, it's been incredibly difficult for me to actually find a slasher movie worth watching, with movies like Prom Night failing in practically every department. With American movies letting me down, i turned to foriegn cinema and heard great things about a film called Cold Prey.
Since watching it, Cold Prey has gone on to be one of my favourite slashers ever, and even one of my favourite horror films. This movie has definite replay value. The story like most slashers, isn't paticuarly original, but who really needs originality in a slasher movie anyway? All you really want is inventive death scenes and lots of chasing, which this film definetly delivers.
All of the actors give it their all, and come across as realistic, with the usual forty minute set up flying by, as the characters themselves are actually fun to watch, even when their not being chased by a madman! Crazy right.
The killer is also another plus for this film, covered from head to toe in snow gear and easily taller than any of the cast members he manages to come off as truly imposing, and has to be one of the most simple yet effective slasher villians created. The film also has amazing cinematography which truly makes use of its snowy mountain setting, and has what looks like a pretty high budget especially for a sweedish (i think) film, who aren't exactly known for their horror movies, although that may change with this movie. A sequel has also been released which i have yet to see, but obviously plan to after how amazing the first one was.
All in all, i would defeinetly reccomend this film to anyone who loves the slasher genre, as this movie is definetly not a waste of time like half the crap that passes for horror these days.
