My Bloody Valentine (1981) Review
Written by: Gardenofstone10
This is the review for the new release of the DVD with the extended version of the movie. This is bloodier than the cut wussy version that we were stuck with for almost 30 years.
For those who haven't seen the movie, I'm going to spoil the first scene, which is my favorite. In all its 80's tacky glory, we have two miners just walking for a couple of minutes. Then, one of them takes off their outfit and it's a woman with a heart tattoo on her boob. The guy refuses to take off his miners outfit, romantic right?, and they start feeling each other up. Then, before we know it, there's a pick ax coming out of her tattoo. DEAD, HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. It was wonderful.
This movie takes me back to my childhood where cheesy acting and ominous old men were king. This film reminds me of a horror movie version of Porky's. It's so much fun.
The deaths in this movie make me happy because not only do we get violence and over the top, grade A gore, but we get an uncommon feature of this time....removal of organs. If you look back at films from the early 80s, there really weren't any organ removal. Sure, we had George A. Romero's movies where guts were removed, but that's it. So we get the old man whose eyeball was removed by a pick ax going through his head, but a lot of people get their hearts removed. Makes me proud.
So, with this finally being on a stand alone DVD with impressive features, this film is taking its rightful spot on the shelves of horror fans worldwide. So take my strong advice, don't think twice, and shell out the 15-20 bucks for this movie. Pop some popcorn, snuggle with your significant other, and have fun.
