My Bloody Valentine 3-D Review
Written by: Goon When I heard this movie was going to be in 3D I was instantly excited to able to see a horror film in Real 3D. Previously I did see Night of the Living Dead 3D but that was on my small television I have at home. As bad as that movie was I still watched it several times because I loved the 3D effect that the film had. So I knew I would have to check this one out in theaters. The fact that it was a remake of the original didn't weigh heavily with me because frankly the original was not that good anyway. This time around they switched the story up just a little to give us at least something a little different. In this film it really didn't have much to do with Valentines Day at all as opposed to the original. It just kind of happened to take place on Valentines Day which I think was much better than making it the second gimmick in the film other than the 3D. Basically a man becomes trapped down inside the mines and kills several other people so he can preserve his own air. When he is discovered however he has already slipped into a deep coma. Later he awakens and goes on a killing spree once again within the mines only leaving a few survivors. Then the film picks up ten years later when the killings begin happening again. Now right off the bat this is a slasher film in which you shouldn't go in expecting Shakespeare or anything. There are some really cheesy lines and some really awful acting in some parts.. But I really fucking loved this movie. I couldn't help but absolutely fall in love with the 3D effects. The aerial shots are amazing and everything looks like you could just reach out and grab it. I mean the 3D in this movie is just insane. If it is playing anywhere near you in 3D I urge you to run out now and check it out while you can because you will never get the same experience from this movie ever again. I admit that I was not expecting much from this movie. The trailer looked god-awful and the shots of the crowd reacting to the 3D aspects just made it worse. But when you get in there and the sign comes up telling you to put on your glasses it really is a thrill. I thought I would be able to really pull myself away from the 3D aspects and review this movie based on its merits alone but this is really a film that needs to be experienced much like Grindhouse was. You just have to see it the way it was meant to be shown. Now I probably wouldn't be praising this so much if the kills in this film weren't as bad ass as they are. I thoroughly enjoyed every kill in this film which included some very inventive ideas. The body count in this is extremely high and the film starts out with two very bloody and gory sequences that just get the movie out of the gate very quickly. If you are a little bit queasy with blood and gore then you probably don't want to see it in 3D because it is a totally different way to watch the movie. All in all this is definitely a great way to start off the year. A slasher film is really only supposed to provide a couple things: a high body count and a bad ass killer. This film really developed both nicely. The twist ending was a little lame I will admit but nothing that ruined the film at all. Plus if you stick around after the credits you'll get a nice surprise. So be sure to run out and catch My Bloody Valentine in theaters while you can in 3D. Its the only way to really get the maximum enjoyment out of this bloody little treat. - Luke Franklin This is a community member review and not a staff member review.
