Amusement Review

There’s nothing fun about this “Amusement”. With a straight to DVD release, that has to tell you something right there. The trailer though looked pretty intriguing and of course I was sucked in.
The story begins in the likes of “Tales from the Crypt”, but lacking the wit and charm of that series, as Shelby (Laura Breckinridge) and her boyfriend find themselves following a small convoy with a couple of sinister characters on some desolate backroads, ala “Joyride”.
Needless to say their trip home isn’t all fun and games. Two more stories unfold, one with a babysitter named Tabitha (Katheryn Winnick) and a house filled with clowns, and another as Lisa (Jessica Lucas) finds her best friend missing in an old dilapidated hotel. None of which are that scary or horrifying.
Anyway, the three tales become entwined, when it turns out that all three were childhood friends who made fun of a boy in elementary school who now seeks revenge. Yawn. The three tales aren’t exactly horrible but just seem too disconnected from each other. Another flaw that adds to this is that the psycho’s appearance is different throughout the entire movie, from geek to cartoonish mad doctor. He wasn’t frightening in any case.
When all three are finally brought together at the end it’s a real mess and turns into a low key chase scene. Tabitha runs through a room reminiscent of “SAW” and then finds her friends in a contraption right out of “Hellraiser”. Don’t get your hopes up, it’s.
Next time I want amusement I’ll pull the wings of some flies.
