Borderland (2007) Review
Written by: Gardenofstone10
This movie was really one that I would not have given the time of day under normal circumstances. I am all about the After Dark Horrorfest, but after the first year, they just stopped being good. That is, until this site was revamped for the reviews and a lot of people gave it a good rating. So, I found a copy at a local rental store and gave it a watch.
Was I ever surprised!!!!
First off, Sean Astin and Rider Strong are in it. To me, that's some serious star power. Sure, Rider Strong was annoying and a cry baby in Boy Meets World, but we all love him. Who can forget Cabin Fever, I love it. Sean Astin, well, I hate him in Rudy and he got what he deserved in this movie.
The movie grabs you in the first scene. You don't know what exactly is going on or why the cops are trying to arrest these guys, but the gore of this scene leaves you wanting more. And so it was.
We have a trio of American teens about to go away to college, wanting to have a little fun and cut loose. Drugs and sex are all that's on their mind as they go into Mexico to score some "lovin'" and drugs. They get a whole lot more.
After Rider Strong goes missing, the other two and one of the guys new girlfriends, start looking for him. Of course they find him, eventually, but I'll let you guys find out what happens to him and his friends.
The movie overall shocked me because the acting was believable, the production value seemed very high and overall, it was freaky. This movie, if I had to describe it, is a mixture of Hostel, Turistas and The Ruins. So is it original? No. Does it leave me wanting more? Yes. For a lower budget movie, this is absolutely a good one and I'd recommend it to anyone.
