Blindness Review

5 out of 10 Skulls

Mark Ruffalo is an eye doctor who encounters a patient with a strange condition - he see’s only what can be described as”looking through milk”, although nothing else is physically wrong with him. His “virus” is quickly spread and before you know it the government has set up containment camps to house the inflicted.

The doctor comes down with the illness as well, and not wanting to leave his side, his wife, Julianne Moore pretends to be blind and enters the camp. For some reason she’s immune to the virus and becomes the mother/nurse to the various patients of the ward. From here it goes from bad to worse as different factions of inmates become power hungry and it almost becomes a “lord of  the flies” scenario. The ward becomes a real cesspool to say the least! When one faction offers the other food in exchange for their women it gets pretty dark and depressing.

Some of the visuals are disturbing and towards the end the vision of the rest of the world is pretty incredible as you see the devastation and people wandering aimlessly about, much akin to a bunch of zombies. It’s pretty creepy. Overall I give the director credit for something pretty original and imaginative and it definitely held my interest,  but there was just something lacking that I just couldn’t put my finger on. Or should I say, I just couldn’t see it.
