Gutterballs (2008) Review
Written by: prddad
Gutterballs is the type of movie that after you watch it, you realize you don't know how to judge it. The plot is basic, the acting is not the best (but not the worst), and you can figure out the killer shortly after the rape scene (yes, that does happen, sorry ladies). Either way, read on to form your own opinion, or at least read what mine was :)
Plot---f*ck if I know. Starts off in a bowling alley, a group of male bowlers harass a female group of bowlers, who are later defended by a second group of male bowlers, who may have been dating the female group of bowlers (?). Either way, a fight breaks out, the first group of bowlers lose, but not before threats are thrown out there. One of the female bowlers is horribly raped later on, and soon after, individuals from all three groups are found dead. Now it is up to the survivors to make it out alive before the killer strikes them too (get it, strikes, like bowling strike? Must be too early for ya'll :))...simple plot, hard to explain it to you, but I think I did the best. Now, I rated the movie 8 of 10, and they definitely lose a point for the rape scene. Granted, I don't condone rape, whether real or imaginary, but in this movie, it goes too far. I'm telling you, at least 15 minutes was spent on it, and for me, that's 13 minutes too much. I know they wanted the shock value when making this movie, but they could have just sped thru all 3 guys who took a turn, then brought in the shocking "anal" shot. And I'm not saying what that is because, wait, I have to say that, that is the other reason it lost a point. No matter who you are, if you have a bowling pin shoved up your ass, you are not, and I repeat, you are NOT going to be out the next day bowling. It's a guarantee. I dont' have to be a doctor to know how much muscle and tissue got torn, and to make it seem like she is ok is prepostrous. Other than that, it was good...
Acting---All are nobodies with decent acting skills that may show up in other B-rated movies. :)
Director---Ryan Nicholson. Sound familiar? He's been doing special effects make-up for 15 years on some of the top movies and shows out there, and has directed the movie LIVE FEED (which Goon reported back on Feb. 9th). So, with that said, shouldn't you see what he is doing? Me, I'd say no, but take my word for it: I dislike B-rated movies, but this one is pretty damn good. Great job Ryan!!!
Nudity---plenty!!!! :)
Gore---if you read my plot, I made mention of a bowling pin going into someone's ass. Well, that is not the worst of it.
CGI---none here, all plastic and fake blood
Scares---none
Bottom line---if you want to get your gore fix, there it is. Underrated but well worth it :)
