The Last House on the Left(2009) Review

Very few horror movies truly disturb me. The few being The Girl Next Door, The Exorcist, and Cannibal Holocaust. Well, I just added another to that list. The Last House on the Left remake.

I'm sure you all know what the movie is about but here’s a short summary for you anyway. While vacationing at their summer home, Emma and John Collingwood (Monica Potter and Tony Goldwyn) show kindness to a group of strangers, unaware that the same men just assaulted their daughter (Sara Paxton). Once they learn the truth, they set out on a no-holds-barred plan for revenge that can only end in bloodshed. Dennis Iliadis directs this updated remake of Wes Craven's 1972 horror classic.

This is the only horror movie that I have ever seen that made grown men cry while sitting in the theater. If a horror movie can make you show that much emotion, it is a masterpiece. It makes you go from Fear, to sadness, to being very pissed off in just a few minutes. I've seen alot of revenge movies but no movie has ever made me want to kill the bad guy so bad. There was even a couple times that I had to force myself to look at the screen. The whole time all I kept thinking was,” What if that was my daughter(if I had one) or my girlfriend“? That thought really enraged me. By the time the criminals get to the parents house, you cannot wait for the torture to begin, and it gives you great relief when it finally does begin.

I have never been a fan of the original Last House on the Left for 2 reasons. One is the music, and the other is the acting. But the remake has excellent acting and the music is awesome. The special effects are also better. The gore and the violence is very realistic and amazingly brutal. The makers of this movie also did a great job making a dreadful atmosphere and creating alot of tension and suspense.

If you have not yet seen this remake, I highly recommend you do so, especially if you’re a fan of the original. But I must warn you that this movie is extremely graphic and shocking so do NOT bring your kids.
