30 Days of Night (2007) Review
Written by: prddad
I read the comic, I bought into the hype which was 30 DAYS OF NIGHT, and the sequels, and all of that, and by the time the movie had come out, I paid the theatre price to see...this...Granted, it's a new type of vampire movie, but it took away from a sequel that would have opened up a whole can of ass-whipping...Eitherway, onwards...
Plot---the town of Barrow experiences 30 days of darkness once a year. Most of the town is abandoned, leaving the sheriff and some family behind. This year, they are going to be getting a visit from some hungry individuals. Individuals who use to be afraid of the dark, but this time, they don't need to be. The townsfolk of Barrow will have to find a way to stay alive during...the 30 DAYS OF NIGHT...that was sweet, wasn't it, moving the title in there like that. Yep, already patting myself on the back for that :). I remember reading how Steve Niles, the creator of 30 DAYS OF NIGHT, came up with this idea, and I'm glad it worked out for him. The plot is excellent, the story has no dry moments that I can think of. It, just, well, like stated above, I know how the story should have gone, and wish it would have. But that's just me...
Actors---Josh Harnett (HALLOWEEN H20; FACULTY), Melissa George (DARK CITY; TURISTAS; AMITYVILLE HORROR), Danny Huston (NUMBER 23; upcoming WOLVERINE), and a few others headline this action-packed gorefest that keeps you on the edge of your seat (or couch, or recliner)...
Director---David Slade (videos, videos, videos, HARD CANDY...?). Interesting career change there David. Unfortunately, in the last 2 years, he has done nothing. That's ok, if his career ended now in hollywood, at least he would have these two movies we can be proud of...
Nudity---none...
CGI---besides the teeth, because if they weren't, I feel bad for the actors/actresses who had to wear those in their mouth...argh...
Gore---from limbs being severerd to necks being viciously ripped open, blood splattering everywhere. This movie is clearly not one for the uneasy...
Scares---unfortunately not...
Bottom line---I'm sure everyone has seen this, I just never had a chance to review it. But, in case you have second-guessed yourself for the last 2 years, now is a chance to get it cheap and available...
