Mimic (1997) Review

7 out of 10 Skulls

12 years since this movie came out. Isn't it time for a remake? Ouch, don't hit me. Hollywood is already thinking it, so I should be able to say it aloud. Even though it doesn't need a remake, only a continuance of the story that was made...

Plot---when a disease carried by cockroaches are causing the deaths of Manhattan children, a scientist comes up with a mutant insect that can kill the cockroaches then, when all complete, will die off harmlessly. It works, but, 3 years later, those same mutant insects are back, and more evolved. It will be hard to hunt down an insect that no longer looks like an insect but has decided to mimic it's prey: us...the idea behind the origin of the mutant insects was ok, creative but not the best. What really got me going was that it mimicked mankind. THAT was the driving point that made this a gotta see back then. Not a creature that hides then kills, this one can be sitting right next to you at the bar and you wouldn't know it...

Bottom line---this movie was meant to be sci-fi horror, and it was. To see giant insects that mimmicked man was interesting but also scary...
