Dead Wood Review
Written by: stonecypher
Dead Wood is a film made on practically a zero budget. I saw the film a year and a half ago at a very advanced screening at the Abertoir horror festival and could not be more pleased that it's receiving attention now.
The filmmakers were present at the festival and regaled us with tales of their difficulties in filming on such a low budget. To be honest, it doesn't really show.
Don't get me wrong - you can tell it's a low budget film. The acting's not exactly perfect, the image isn't super-clear...but that's to be expected. The visual effects are incredibly impressive given the budget, even when the film reaches its elaborate climax.
The story is tight and suspenseful and the characters nice enough to want to root for them. The film's ending does seem to go off on one a little bit, but it remains effective.
I hope to see a DVD release of this soon, as it's certainly one I'm looking forward to re-visiting.
