1408 Review

A year and a half ago, I purchased the 2-Disc Special Edition of 1408.  A year and a half later, now, I am watching it for the first time.  I bought it completely on a whim and have tried selling it off numerous times.  Obviously, me watching this movie was meant to be. 

Little bit about the movie: John Cusak, the fucking man, is a ghost hunter and paranormal author.  When invited to the Dolphin Hotel, he is warned about the room 1408.  Samuel L Jackson, also the fucking man, is the hotel manager.  He warns John about staying in the room.  That almost 60 people have died IN the room.  John, of course a skeptic, stays in the room against Sam Jackson's will.  Once we get into the hallway of the room and even the room itself, it's very rustic and creepy.  I would totally NEVER stay there, but of course, in the mind of Stephen King, only fools will. 

Weird stuff starts to happen.  WEIRD.  I was worried that the movie would take The Sixth Sense turn and have John Cusak be dead or knocked out for the whole movie, but luckily, that wasn't the case.  They toyed with it for a moment, but it was just another messed up vision that the room imposed on him. 

With the room being overly haunted, John gives up his career as a ghost hunter/novelist and settles down with his wife, with whom they lost their daughter.  The movie ends on an eerie note that I really liked. 

I didn't divulge much of the plot because you need to see it as it's messed up and something that would be very hard to explain.  I tried selling this movie off for so long, but after watching it, I'm parking it in my collection for good.  This was a fantastic movie that kept you guessing and on the edge of your seat.  I love John Cusak and it's nice to see him in this kind of environment.  He reminds me of an older Paul Rudd.  Go see this movie if you haven't already, you won't regret it.  Peace.
