9 out of 10 Skulls

Let me just start out by saying, that if you are in any way, sensitive to violence, gore, child abuse, or torture. This movie is definitely NOT for you. I have been seeing a lot of reviews on this movies so I decided myself to go and pick up this movie. And quite honestly, Martyrs made the hair stand up on the back of my neck. The plot goes like this: A young girl by the name of Lucie Jeune (Jessie Pham) is being abused in a hospital along side her best friend, sister, girlfriend (shes listed with the same last name) Anna Jeune (Erika Scott).

Fifteen years later Lucie (Mylène Jampanoï) seeks revenge on the people that abused her and Anna (Morjana Alaoui) helps tries to help her get through what happened. Then all the torturing and violence starts to take play. Honestly I cannot say a whole lot about this movie without giving away any spoilers.

But, I can say this. Martyrs keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout the entire movie, and it was quite an emotional trip for me. I think the the acting in this movie was superb and greatly casted. Even though this movie is about torture and abuse. Martyrs brings much more to the table. It messes with the mind (when you think that THIS could actually happen) and makes you really feel for the victims.

The first hour of the film was all about revenge. And was one of the bloodiest hour of a movie I have seen in a long time. (Hostel is PG compared to this movie) The the last 30 minutes of the movie was........Unreal. I really didn't think that I could complete this movie, but was able to sit through it till the end. Then the credits hit and I was like literally, shaken up. I recommend this movie to those that can handle torture violence, but not those to the faint of heart. Great story overall and now I need a bath.
