Outlander Review

5 out of 10 Skulls

Outlander is best summed up as cool concept, piss poor execution. "Outlander” begins when a space craft crashes into the majestic fjords of ancient Norway and into the time of the Vikings.  From the wreckage emerge two bitter enemies: a soldier from another world – Kainan – and a bloodthirsty creature known as the Moorwen.

Man and monster both seeking revenge for violence committed against them.  As the Moorwen ravages the Viking world, killing everything in its path, Kainan forms an unlikely alliance with the primitive but fierce warriors. Combining his advanced technology with ancient Iron Age weapons, the hero leads a desperate attempt to kill the monster - before it destroys them all.

The film is an action film which is best described for me as The 13th Warrior meets Aliens. The only thing is that Aliens and The 13th Warrior were both really cool movies. Outlander is most certainly not. It is a very cool premise of a man from an extremely advanced race crashing down in extremely medieval earth to fight a dragon like beast that crash lands with him. The problem is its a cool concept mixed with piss poor acting, some horrible CGI fx and delivers an absolutely dissapointing experience.

I wanted to love Outlander since it stars Ron Perlman ( in a small role ) and James Caviezel who was awesome in UNKNOWN but the film simply lacks any magic. The acting is jaded, the visual fx are embarassing and overall the film frankly just missed the mark. Cool concept that is poorly executed and leaves me wishing I had of kept my $22 and bought something else... like a hammer to hit myself in the face with.
