From Dusk Till Dawn 3: The Hangman's Daughter Movie Details: DVD, Theatre Date, News, Trailers & More From Dusk Till Dawn 3: The Hangman's Daughter Review
7 out of 10 Skulls
Written by: BlackTequilaKiss

The first movie was astounding, the second seemed rather lost so what of the third? I can safely say this is damn great but absolutely mental! A lot of fun this is a welcome addition to the series of films.

I admit I had reservations. The sequel was disappointing and I wondered if this would turn out the same. Thankfully I was wrong. It starts off slowly with a smooth pace, eventually leading to a bar we are all well acquainted with, then mayhem; blood and guts become part of the main course.

Plotline- Set 100 years in Mexico, Outlaw Johnny Madrid narrowly escapes death and finds himself on the run from the Hangman. By his side is the Hangman's sensuous daughter, Esmeralda. With Madrid's gang they embark on an adventure which will lead them to the fight of their lives and allow Esmeralda to finally discover the truth about her secret birthright.

The characters are easy to become invested in, the gore is actually done pretty well and while the story is not wholly original, is still entertaining.

To put it in a timely fashion, this is good old western horror with a little terror and quite a ride!

There's are a tirade of actors who grace the screen and bring something more to this movie. Marco Leonardi (Madrid) was pretty good. He seemed unsure what to do in the beginning but gathered pace and for a character so revered in the start he does a admirable job of changing our thoughts half way through. Good actor. Michael Parks (Ambrose Bierce) he was hilarious! Given through much of the blood shed he remained in a drunken stupor he added the comedy element it required. And then Ara Celi (Esmeralda), such beauty. I really only have seen her in Buffy but the innocence she portrays and brings across was evident in the characterisation of Esmeralda. She was a fitting actress for the part.

There were many other talents that deserve a mention including, Orlando Jones, Danny Trejo, Jordana Spiro, Temuera Morrison and even Rebecca Gayheart who proves she can do a role that is more than one dimensional, adding a little spice to the movie.

In terms of the cinematography, it was pretty decent. But that might have been given that most of the film except for in the bar was centred around the Mexico desert. Shots of the sandy plains against a western decor were very impressive, a scene regarding a makeshift graveyard had an aged feel, that made even the simple tones seem very real.

The music was apt. It was nothing special I will be honest. It had everything to be thrilling but was simply nice yet forgettable. For the backbone of the movie it was rather lost and it would have been nice to have a harder, intense sound during the vampire rampage. That would have got the pulse racing. But ok, just not brilliant.

Gore & Special Effects: Ok I will be honest. The effects around the bats? So, SO bad! You can tell within seconds they have utterly fake and it detracted slightly. But the gore itself? The blood, the guts? This was the prize. The sequel lacked in this area, this more than made up for that. Fang effects were a little overdone but the blood was insane! The ripping of necks, the disembowelling of bodily organs, the splatter effect was gorgeous! It was worth the ride alone just to see the effects? Cheesy? Of course, but this is a movie with a slight layer of cheese on so it was to be expected. But it really is a beautiful addition and fantastically done!

Truly I hated the other movie but this one more than made up for that. Everything flowed together, the cast, the story, the insanity and it did what the other could not. In my opinion the series would have fared so much better if they had left out the 2nd one and just gone straight to this.

It is nothing new. There is nothing unique but it is fun. If you want an evening that is just enjoyable fodder, straight off the wall entertainment then this ought to be seen. There's the little bit of cheese, the great amount of gore, boobs are also quite often seen throughout the bar sequences and a cast I actually genuinely liked, yes it is silly but that really is the point of the film.

Insane? Check. Fun? Yes. For reasons stated it gets 6.5 out of 10 which I rounded up to a 7 on the official rating. Why? Whilst it is good fun it may not be to everyone's taste. If you liked the first then you'll like this. If you like vampires by the dozen, then you are in luck. But do not expect an outstanding plot and the most incredibly acting ever. It is just fun, know that going into it and you will enjoy.

Worthy of watching at least once in my opinion. Thanks Y'all.

Mwah! BTK.
